It’s just been announced that the new Harry Potter film has broken yet another box office record. It’s no surprise as it marks the end of an era for this extraordinary story that has taken the world by storm. I wasn’t sure what to expect as I was mildly impressed by the last film however it was in danger of becoming ‘boring’.
The Deathly Hallows Part 2 has the artistic vision and atmosphere of Part 1 but now it has the action too. The special effects are sublime and take nothing away from the viewers imagination.
The success of the two final films has been in the atmosphere that has been created in them. The tension that is built up in Part 1 rises up in Part 2 into an action packed finale. The film really tells the story in an aesthetic sense as well as narratively. The first half is built from dark colours like black and grey and there is an apocoliptic edge. As the story unfolds the colours lighten, finishing in an angelic and warm glow. It’s a mature end to a story that began as a children’s book. Even without being a fan you can’t help but be enthralled.
